Fantastic video! Animation by Simon Toefield (sp?) about his cat, and this video happens to be exactly like my cat when I am asleep. There are a whole series of these, they have been successful on Youtube. Only short in length but still hilarious! And the sounds are very accurate!!
For one of my ident ideas I would like to use a walking dog! Only problem is, I have never ever done this type of animation - so I can see the idea being abandoned!! This animation above will help me work out where the dogs legs should be at what time.
Channel Dave:
This is a film ident, with the Dave logo appearing on the side of the cars, and using Dave 1 as the reg. plate. Plus the flag!
BBC Three:
I am a huge fan of the BBC idents, they are memorable and captivating and a great way of promoting the channel brand! I can remember this one from 2008, it isn't film like the Dave one, but it just goes to show a clever animation can be just as effective:
My absolute favourite, nothing too fancy, no crazy effects, just a catchy, familiar jingle and some strange creatures nodding their head and singing. With 3D text (THREE) in the background, with a plain dark blue backdrop and some kind of spotlight:
Another from the blob series, with the voice of Andy from Little Britain:
This is a funny one, I am not quite sure what it's supposed to mean, but these are little old lady blobs who go to church:
Another Little Britain themed one - promoting the channel and the programme:
This is a BBC 2 ident that takes me back to my child hood, the fluffy squeaky dog type thing! Again, like the recent BBC 3 ones, the background is very simple, no laser beams, just an animated fluffy 2!
Screen shots from E4 idents:
To sum the idents up, they are bright and innovative, and have a fun, entertaining element to them which suits the tone of voice for the channel.
Moving E4 idents:
These are idents for Channel 4 - famous for its innovative response, I love the extreme to which scale is pushed to create those few seconds where the elements do read the number 4 but within seconds they are just separate elements again:
I have only just noticed on this one - even though I have seen it hundreds of times- where the 4 is!
And of course the very sneaky April's Fool idents:
This is a trailer to show all the dramas that ITV will be showing this Winter 2011, the logo has changed to an animated, glittery, more christmassy style, but still remains in the usual ITV positioning.
This is fantastic! I love it. The sound is a collection of sound effects but they work with the animation. The jerky swipes across the screen create the sense of hand held, tense scenes. At 0:10 I love how it zooms out and shows the full image, and at 0:13 the overlay of a semi transparent layer that jerks, reminds me of something from a horror movie. The constant beat in the background adds to this tension as well. I think its a really well put together piece. IT builds up to a peak at 1:11, and then calms down, similar to the structure of a horror/thriller film.
The jerky over laying of images effect is something similar to what I want to use in my motion.
This is a great example of a trailer, it relates to the topic of 'Care' with lots of paper work, and the music is quite haunting along with the different speech clips from the programme. The typographic concept of certain words appearing on forms is effective visually and conceptually.
This was really tense! I loved the way the music interacted with the motion, the use of special effects with video is really interesting! I want to make work like this!!
I would love my CCTV motion graphic to look like this - I know it won't!
This is the kind of showreel I would like to produce, it shows the person is not restricted, there is type, image, video and it mixes in really well!
Romain Loubersanes:
This person is from Paris, the music is typical french Electro and seems representative of the reel, its much slower in pace than the previous showreel but again shows variety, there was even a website included on this one. Very cool!
Raoul Paulet:
Another great example - some impressive effects, it makes me excited to learn!
This is a trailer for Dispatches: Afghanistan's Dirty War, the type used is appropriate as it has that army feel to it, they way it enters and exits the screen is appropriate for the mood being created, also the colour and font is well suited for the piece. The sound as it appears on the screen makes it seem authentic too. The use of still and moving images throughout is effective.
A great example of a series that documents social issues is Panorama. The trailers aren't quite in the style I would like to work in, so I think it will be a one-off documentary.
The above trailer is for the Panorama: Scientology and Me, I watched this as part of my A-Level in Sociology course and it was astounding and slightly sinister. Worth a watch. This trailer is typical of a BBC documentary, but I want to create something darker...
After the Breakfast with frost introduction this is a darker, haunting style, the music makes it haunting but the imagery alone is enough to send shivers down anyones spine.
This is for the same campaign in the previous post, 'If you see something, say something.' The latest update of the MTA's award-winning security awareness campaign, launched in April 2011, includes four 15-second television commercials, newspaper print ads, and posters on subways, buses and trains. It was created by MTA ad agency Korey Kay & Partners.
Another version:
The style of these adverts although they aren't visually sinister, psychologically it can have an effect as it leaves the viewer wondering what will happen next - why did the man walk off leaving the bag? What's in the bag? More importantly, they are all men in these commercials! Sexist?
Not related to my briefs but nevertheless I find it interesting and visually pleasing. The animation won quite a lot of awards across the USA and the UK, and their has been quite a lot of press coverage on it too. I love the simplicity of it all - the minimal colours, detail or images, and no fancy effects, but it still works really well and communicates what it should.
Again, I absolutely love this, it reminds me of the Lionsgate ident, with the cogs turning and the camera panning in. This is also by the same person who did the skull montage.

This ties in my research into skulls and my love of motion! I would love to create something like this, unfortunately at the moment I do not know how to use Cinema 4D.

Screen shots from the title sequence from Louis Theroux Weird Weekends...
I really like the style of this motion graphic quite minimal but high impact - the movement of the elements across the screen create a flow. I also love the black and white photos/videos against the black, orange and white, it makes a great contrast.
